Lectures
Thermoregulation
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht explains thermoregulation. Dr. Giesbrecht covers
the responses that will occur during exposure to cold water as your
body attempts to maintain it's "normal" core temperature and explains
the physics behind these responses and touches upon methods for re-warming
victims.
Heat
Loss Mechanisms
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht explains heat loss mechanisms. and covers the
reasons why we lose heat from our body in the manner in which we do
and what preventative measures against heat loss should be.
4
Phases
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht explains four phase of Cold Water shock.
1-10-1
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht explains 1-10-1 principle which could SAVE your
life. All of the following is determined by the temperature and condition
of the water and victim. You may have 1 minute to gain control of
your breathing. You may have up to ten minutes to perform self-rescue
prior to becoming incapacitated. You may have up to one hour before
becoming hypothermic.
Survival
in Cold Water
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht explains your potential for survival in cold water.
Stay
or Swim
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht explains the differences in thinking when it comes
to "stay" with the boat or "swim" to "safety".
