1-10-1
The explanation is made for the importance of knowing and utilizing the 1-10-1 principle if you are a victim of cold water immersion. You have 1 minute to get your breathing under control. 10 Minutes for meaningful movement for self-rescue and 1 hour for potential survival against becoming unconscious and drowning. Dr. Giesbrecht explains this very important principle which we know has in fact saved lives in the recent past.

First 60 Seconds
The myth about hypothermia is dispelled. You cannot die from hypothermia in 5-10 minutes. Viewers are introduced to the importance of protecting the airway when suddenly immersed in cold water and the importance of gaining control in an effort to reduce the effect of cold-water shock and the gasp, avoiding the panic and potential fainting or cardiac arrest (with individuals with underlying cardiac issues).
